The Distance Between Us

The distance between you and I
Has made my spirit empty. And
It drives me mad that your sweet hand
Cannot be won. But I must try.

What mighty anthem, simple song,
Or tender words would hearken you
To listen? Did I misconstrue
Your aim in kindness? Was I wrong?

A thousand voices lifted high
Could not compel a list’ning ear.
You dwell in silence. And I fear
This love will weaken... even die.

So once again I call to you
To bridge the gap. But you will ne’er
Look past the wall, or see I care
Completely with a love so true.
