Shattered Heart

When it’s over, who remembers?
Does the flame of passion turn to embers?
What’s left for us when the moment’s gone?
Do we forget the feelings and just move on?
“I never loved you,” I hear you say.
But your thoughts betray you as you walk away.
If we touched once more your heart would know
The reason I could not let you go.
But your firm denial pushes up apart
And you walk away from my shattered heart.
