More Answers... Another Mistake?

by Myra Sunveil

The pain was incredible. But she refused to make a sound. She gritted her teeth and squeezed her eyes closed, as the searing pain flared around the mark on her right arm. She heard him step forward, his cloak rustling behind him. He grabbed her left arm and pulled it toward him, holding it much as he had her right. She forced her eyes open and focused through the tears of pain.

The sinister looking dagger was already in his hand, and he began carving into her arm, just as he had two nights past. Bearing down against the pain, she managed to not even whimper this time... the searing pain in her other arm mingling with this pain. She reminded herself that this was the price of the answers she sought and tried to block out the pain. He cut his hand and dribbled his blood over the wound on her arm. The pain flared for a moment, and when it dissipated, another small red tattoo-like marking graced her left arm.

He motioned, and the pain in her right arm vanished. Oddly enough, with all the pain gone, she felt invigorated. She inquired what this mark would do, and his answer made her smile. He excused himself, looking winded, and she stepped lightly outside. Looking around, she smiled brightly. With a spring in her step she headed towards the Temple, hoping Khalin was about.
