An update on my condition

by Khalin Wael

Vendui' abbilen,

I am writing to assure you that I am still under the care of the healers at their enclave north of Britain. My condition has improved since my arrival here, and the healers have assured me that, if I continue to make progress, that I will be able to leave soon. However, Honor Guardsman Azeron Daefaroth does not seem as optimistic. There is something that troubles him still.

These stone walls are a poor replacement for the nature of the grove. Even on those occasions when I am able to sneak out, I find the woods here unsettling. On three occasions now I have encountered dark, sinister trees that attacked me with flailing limbs and powerful spells. The healers call them Reapers, though Azeron has told me that they were quite rare in this area until recently. Suffice it to say that I cannot wait to return to Tel'Ruid.

In the meantime, I have a request of you all. Before my condition worsened, an abbil of mine named Sevanna Naurelea vanished from Tel'Ruid. Thrandul, Talanithus, Cirdan and I had attempted to locate her on the night of her disappearance. It was our conclusion that she had an encounter with some more Drow. I do not know what danger may have found her, but I know that she must be found, and too much time has been lost already. For those that wish to help, please seek out Sevanna's former mentor, the Lady Amanda Wolfe.

I await the time that I will see each of you again.

I am returning

by Khalin Wael

Vendui' d'jal,

I have been away from Tel'Ruid for too long now. And, while the mage Azeron Daefaroth has repeatedly warned against leaving, there is much that I left undone. Now I must return.

As far as my health, xas, I am feeling much better. Azeron still claims that there is something wrong with me, but I am feeling as I have not in years. I think, perhaps that he is overly concerned. The healers here at the Crossroads have done their job well.

So I will be making my way back to the glade. I pray that my journey back is not a long one.

Receives a missive from Talanithus

by Khalin Wael

Khalin sat near the open fire. His eyes lingered painfully on the open flame, while the skinned pig roasted in its heat. How long had he been away from another sentient contact? He did not know. Why had he purchased travel from Trinsic to this island at the edge of the world? That he also did not know.

Then, like a cold wind penetrating the warm climate of this hostile, tropical isle, he felt the touch of another mind. Talanithus' essence penetrated his mental defenses, with a voice that only the Drow could hear. Khalin, your presence is required. Sevanna has be found, and representatives of the Mage's Tower at Moonglow wish to contact you.

Khalin sat straight up. So... Sevanna has been found. He did not know whether to celebrate or be angry. Rather than decide, he just finished roasting his meal. He wanted to be well fed and rested for his trek to the hunter's camp tomorrow morning. From there he would seek passage back to civilization, and leave behind this island that had held such a strange allure.

He made a silent decision to return again.

Deep below the earth, within the bowels of the Dungeon Hythloth, a creature of great power stirred.

*stares at the dock*

by Khalin Wael

Khalin handed fifteen minted Britannian coins to the officer on the deck of the ship. "Bel'la dos... Thank you for your trouble."

The first mate narrowed his eyes, still not understanding the stranger, but eager to take the money and be done with it. There was something about the ebon-skinned stranger that had unnerved the crew ever since he stepped aboard. But his money was good, so they tolerated his presence. It wasn't too much of an inconvenience... the Drow had stayed in his cabin for the majority of the trip, only coming on deck for brief walks at night, when most of the crew were asleep.

Now, here he was. And Sevanna was on the island. There were still so many questions in his mind. Could she be trusted? For what purpose was he summoned here? If nothing else, he was going to the Mage's Tower for answers.

The first officer blew a whistle, and the plank was extended. Khalin took one last look at the H.M.S. Justicia, then turned toward the island of Moonglow. He had been to the Mage's Tower once before, and he worked the directions in his head. He had thought, for much of the journey, that he would do his best to avoid the area surrounding the cemetery where he had been attacked, but now he found himself strangely drawn there. It was probably the shortest route anyway...
