Troubled

by Cat’trina

After helping to fight off the last wave of undead from in front of the Silver Arrow and delivering the gold she collected from the corpses to Talanithus, Cat'trina headed to the stable to get Vortex taken care of for the night.

As she lovingly rubbed down her mare's coat and got some food ready for him, she realized just how weak and tired she was. She sat down on a bale of hay and tried to relax a moment. Being resurrected, immediately dying, and then being resurrected again within minutes took a lot out of her. So many of them... Even with Vortex to protect her she had still fallen. Many had fallen...

She began thinking about how much her life has changed since she found Tel'Ruid.

It was hard to keep going against her instincts to stay away from groups of people. The more friends she made, the easier it was to feel the pain of loss. If she cared, she'd be hurt. Always.

She already lost Vhagar in Hythloth. She abandoned him in that hellish place when he was so busy protecting her that he didn't follow her through the gate. The gate closed behind without any way to return in time to save him. She LEFT him there. The thought of what she had done and the pain of his loss was almost too much for her to bear.

The mission was successful. Was helping someone she barely knew worth the loss of the dragon friend who had stood by her side for so very long? She wondered if putting another of her dragon friends at risk to go after Baal'morda was the right thing to do. Vapor had agreed to go. The people of Tel'Ruid didn't deserve to be under his oppression. They had been nice to her and she should help them. Yes, she must.

Right before falling asleep on that prickly bale of hay, she wondered if Tel'Ruid held the answers to her missing past.
